The NDA exam or the National
Defence Academy Exam is for the recruitment of candidates in to the Army, Navy
and Air Force. This exam is help twice a year, generally in the month of April
and September. It is conducted by the UPSC( Union Public Service Commission).
The candidate opting for the NDA exam is expected to specify the services for
which he wishes to be selected and he can also give his preferences with regard
to his rank in the order of merit. The NDA exam is a two tier examination I.e
after clearing the written test candidates will also have to clear the SSB
interview round. For appearing for the NDA exam, an application fee of 100
rupees is taken.
NDA Eligibility Criteria
Following is the eligibility criteria for candidates who wish
to take the NDA exam:-
Nationality:
-Anyone who is a citizen of India, Nepal or Bhutan is
eligible for this exam.
-Tibetan refugee who come over to
India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently
settling in India.
-
Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and
East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania,
Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently
settling in India.
Age Limit: ( for NDA Exam,2019)
-For
NDA I, candidates must have born between 2nd July
2000 to 1st July 2003.
-For
NDA II, candidates should have born between 2nd January
2001 to 1st July 2004.
Gender & Marital Status:
Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply
for the NDA Exam and candidates must undertake not to marry until
they finish their complete training.
Qualification Criteria:
-For
Army Wing of NDA: Candidates should have
qualified 10+2 or equivalent examination from any recognized board.For Air
Force & Naval of NDA and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval
Academy: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent
exam with physics and mathematics subjects.

Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam are also
eligible to apply.
Physical Standards:
The physical standards required for the NDA exam is
pretty strict.Candidates have to be physically
fit as per the physical standards notified by the
officials.
Exam Pattern for NDA Exam (2019):
- This exam only comprises of objective type questions
- The Question paper will be asked in the OMR pattern
- Mode of paper: Pen and paper based mode
- Duration of paper will be around 2.5 hours. One part of the paper is Mathematics and the second part is General Ability Test.
- The medium of the paper will be in English as well as Hindi
- For every wrong answer there is a negative marking of 0.33 marks.
- The subjects included in the paper are Mathematics(300 marks), English ( 200 marks), General Knowledge(400 marks). So basically the whole paper is of 900 marks.
- The SSB interview is of 900 marks. (Only those candidates who ace the written test, qualify for the SSB interview)
- Hence, grand total of NDA exam holds a weight-age of 1800 marks.

For the year 2019, the NDA & NA (I) is scheduled on 23rd April 2019, and the NDA (II) is scheduled on 10th September 2019
NDA Syllabus 2019
The syllabus will comprise of mathematics, English and general knowledge sections.
Candidates can follow the NDA 2019 syllabus given below:
Mathematics:
Concept of set, operations on sets, venn diagrams, types of
matrices, operations on matrices, determinant of a matrix, trigonometrical
ratios, trigonometric identities sum and difference formulae, distance formula.
equation of a line in various forms, angle between two lines, distance of a
point from a line, equation of a circle in standard and in general form,
composite functions, one to one, onto and inverse functions, notion of limit,
standard limits, etc.
GAT (General Aptitude Test):
English: Vocabulary, grammar and usage,
comprehension and cohesion in extended text to test the candidate’s proficiency
in English. It tests the candidate’s understanding of English and use of words.
General Knowledge: This section contains
topics from the physics, chemistry, general science, geography, current events,
history, freedom movement, etc.
How to Prepare for NDA
Here are a few tips to prepare for the NDA exam:-
- The candidate should make a study plan and should also gather all details regarding the syllabus and pattern.
- Proper reference material and study material should be referred to in order to secure good marks.
- Solving previous years question papers helps to know the exam pattern in depth..
- Make short notes while studying and revise them at the end time of preparations.
- One should ensure that he is healthy and fit..
